The journey to State must have been destiny for Shelor. Two seasons ago, in 2012, he made the trip to root on his teammate, Austin Clancy. Other teammates that came along were Christian Carter and Daulton Baldwin. Carter competed at State in 2013 and finished 15th. Clancy, Carter, Baldwin, and Shelor can be seen jogging the Oak Hills Golf Center course in a photo taken when Clancy was there to compete (see the home page). If only Baldwin would rejoin the team for his Senior year and qualify for State, then that photo would truly be foretelling.
Pair finished 139th in a field of 171 at 23:05.39. Considering she missed a few meets during the season, she was still able to crank out a decent time. Shelor finished 138th in a field of 169 at 18:53.68. He was shy of his personal record by a mere nine seconds. Not too shabby on a difficult course.
Pair would like to continue to qualify for state in each of her last two years of high school. Naturally, Shelor would like to return, also. Hopefully, both the boys and girls teams will qualify to compete at State. Time and persistence will tell.
