Due to the heat and humidity, the majority of athletes from all schools seemed to be running sluggishly. For Excelsior Springs, that held true with a couple exceptions. First, Halley Parkin ran her second 5k race of her career surpassing her initial time by 47 seconds with a personal record. Secondly, Seth Edwards did not set an overall personal record, but he did beat his best time on this particular course. Not only that, but the course was lengthened from previous years because it may not have actually been 5 kilometers in the past.
Compared to all of the District opponents at the invitational, Excelsior didn't fare very well. At this point in the season, it can be attributed to illnesses and injuries. The goal is to get healthy and improve the teams' standings against Conference and District opponents. The Varsity Girls finished 5th of 6 and the Varsity Boys finished 6th of 7.
Individually, besides Parkin's personal record and Edwards' course best, the Varsity Girls had three medalists (Katey Moerschel, Parkin, Katelen Patterson), Varsity Boys had one medalist (Ben Hartwig), and the JV Boys had two medalists (Arthur Meehan and Jordan Meehan).
