The varsity girls race started the day off. Four girls in a field of 49 ran for Excelsior Springs, three of whom finished with medals placing in the top 20. Dani Pair placed 15th as she limped across the finish line with soreness in her knee. Katey Moerschel and Halley Parkin raced each other to the finish line. According to their shoe chips, Moerschel edged out Parkin placing them 18th and 19th, respectively; however, their times were recorded the same at 23:29.6. For Parkin, it was another personal record having beat her previous PR set at KC Metro three days prior. Katelen Patterson was the only girl who didn't earn a medal, but she wasn't too far out having placed 26th with her best time of the season, too.
There were 80 varsity boys running, and of those, a team of five represented Excelsior's Tigers. Unfortunately, none of them earned a medal, yet Seth Edwards was the only runner to set a personal record time of 19:55.3. Edwards was the third ES Tiger to cross the finish line (35th place). Of the Tigers, all five had recorded their best times on this course improving over their finish times from last year. Only one of them - Ben Hartwig - ran on varsity at this meet last season. He did improve his finish place over last season, too. Three of the boys - Hartwig, Brent Shelor, and Edwards - finished under 20 minutes. Logan Stock continues to rebound from his ankle injury improving as he goes. Lane Rogers is still searching for his first sub-20 race.
The boys team placed 8th out of 12 teams. There were three Conference opponents at the meet. Pleasant Hill placed 2nd, Oak Grove 10th, and Richmond ended in 12th. Richmond is also a District opponent this season. They and four other teams from the District participated, too. Smithville placed 1st, Chillicothe 3rd, St. Joseph-Benton 5th, and Cameron 6th. The boys team has some work to do if they expect to have a showing at the Conference or District Championships.
Autumn Summers would be the only Tiger running junior varsity of the 45 girls starting. She would have liked to set another personal record to best her time from KC Metro from three days earlier, but it wasn't to be because of tightness with one of her hamstrings. For the junior varsity boys, Alex Argyle continues to impress the team as he continually improves. He set another personal record for himself as did teammate Jordan Meehan. Freshmen Arthur Meehan and Jacob Scott finished between Argyle and Jordan Meehan placing 60th and 61st, respectively, in a field of 78.
To summarize the races from this meet, of the 14 who participated, three medals were earned, all by varsity girls, five personal records were set, and six runners finished with their best course times.
