There were Conference and District opponents participating at this important regular season meet. If all of the non-district teams were removed, Excelsior's Varsity Boys (11th) would have finished fifth behind Liberty North (2nd), Platte County (5th), Benton (6th), and Smithville (7th). The newcomers at Cameron (21st) would have finished sixth.
Against the only two MRVC opponents, it was a bit closer. Richmond finished 10th and Grain Valley finished 13th with Excelsior Springs sandwiched between them at 11th and only 47 points behind Richmond. If the non-conference opponents were eliminated and the points recalculated, Richmond would have taken first with 37 points, Excelsior second with 42, and Grain Valley third with 43. Not only that, but Austin finished only 19 seconds behind Richmond's
leader and nine seconds behind Grain Valley's speedy Freshman.
So, the third meet was considered a success despite the cold rain. That's two out of three meets that took place in the rain. Check out the results on the Platte County Invitational meet page.
