When the meet hosts saw storms were moving in, they combined the Boys and Girls Junior Varsity races. When that race started, the clouds were getting darker and lightning could be seen in the distance, yet the race went on. By the time they were done, it was time to get off the field. People were scrambling for cover as the big raindrops began to fall and the thunder growled. The C Team race was canceled, so Autumn did not get to run her race. The parking lot was at a standstill as it appeared that only one exit was opened.
As for the results, Micaela medaled in her third consecutive race of the season! She was the only representative for Excelsior and placed 24th out of 99 runners.
Christian and Ben ran for the Varsity Boys. Although Christian's time was still not his best of the season, he had an excellent race under 18 minutes again finishing 5th out of 150 boys! He finished 1:02 behind the leader and medaled. Ben finished 82nd.
In the Junior Varsity races, the boys were coming in before the girls. There were 211 boys running. For ESHS, Bailey crossed the finish line first in 17th place, Brent was 61st, Seth 70th, Lane 75th, and Logan 85th. Only Bailey medaled. As a team, they finished 10th of the 20 teams running; however, if the only Class 3 teams were viewed, they would be ranked 4th out of 8 with Platte County, Liberty North, and Grain Valley ahead of them.
It looked like Dani would win her third consecutive JV Girls race, but she came in 2nd about a minute behind a girl from Pembroke Hill. There were 103 girls in the race, so this was a good test for her and she did great. Katelen ran her first JV race of the season and finished 6th. April's second race resulted in a 34th place finish. All three medaled. Ali wrapped up the girl's race in 69th place with a season best time as she inches ever closer to her personal record.
To summarize, this was a big meet with a lot of big teams. Excelsior had three top 10 placers, six medalists, and a 10th place JV Boys team finish. There were no personal records and only one season best time. Three runners who ran this course in past seasons recorded their best times at Platte Ridge Park. Five others set their first course times here.
Maybe on our next visit, it will remain dry!
