It wasn't the best way to start a season to see how the athletes would do in normal situations at all. There were two Conference opponents, Holden and Oak Grove, and one District opponent, St. Pius X, that is new to Class 3 District 8 this year. Oak Grove didn't have a boys team, but the other two did. Holden and SPX had Boys Varsity teams that scored better than Excelsior Springs. That isn't good news for the Tigers, although it does give us something to strive for.
Out of the 12 runners from ESHS competing, seven medaled! Micaela placed 27th out of 55 in the Varsity girls 5k race, Katelen finished 9th and Ali came in 21st in the 1st Year girls 2k race. Brent had an impressive 2nd place finish and Seth came in at 17th in the JV boys 4k race. Austin ended with a 17th place finish with Christian not far behind in 24th for the Varsity boys. Those were the medalists. Those who were not fortunate enough to medal included Alex in the 1st Year boys division 2k race, and the remainder of the Varsity boys - Robert, Jacob, Ben, and Daulton. Check out the individual results and team results on the St. Mary's Invitational page to see how we did.
It's good to be out of the rain!
