In their second meet, Katelen Patterson and Katey Moerschel ran their season best times in the Varsity Girls race. They still have a little ways to go to catch up to their true form.
For the Varsity Boys, Brent Shelor and Seth Edwards each recorded their first races under 20 minutes for the season, both of which were their season best times and course best times. Logan Stock essentially tied his course best time and Lane Rogers recorded a season best time. The Varsity runners came up short in the medals at Chillicothe.
Junior Varsity runners fared very well. Kenna Price and Kylin Weaver ran their inaugural 5k races in Cross Country and jumped out early towards the front early. Kenna showed her strength by staying close to the first place runner throughout the race until she realized she could get by her. After going beyond the two mile mark, she didn't look back and finished the race as the JV Girls Champion! Weaver completed her maiden voyage as well finishing in a respectable 12th place. April Stodgel and Autumn Summers each had course best and season best times.
The JV Boys all ran their first 5k races of their careers at Chillicothe. They seemed to be mimicking the girls by getting out fast and staying there. Caleb Shepard was on the heels of the first place JV boy the entire race, never quite being able to catch up to him, though. Still he finished with a strong 2nd place followed by Noah Birkeness in 3rd, Joel Courtney in 8th, and Patrick Shelor in 16th. Shepard had a 5k time under 21 minutes. Birkeness just about finished under 21 with a time of 21:01.
All in all, even though the Varsity runners didn't accumulate any medals, they picked up the pace and showed that they still have the speed they had near the end of last season. The JV runners showed an early promise that they may be able to contribute to Varsity team occasionally throughout the season.
